Mid Ulster District Council Launches Decade of Anniversaries - Commemorations 2021/22 Programme.

Council Chair, Councillor Cáthal Mallaghan has welcomed the announcement:
“Mid Ulster Council will deliver a number of events throughout the area, in our venues and online. It is an opportunity for us all to reflect on this significant period in our shared history and look forward to a shared future.”

Also commenting, the Council’s Deputy Chair, Councillor Meta Graham said:
“I look forward to the many interesting activities planned during the next year which are being supported by the Council, in particular, the exhibitions that will be available for the public to visit and enjoy. I am delighted to see The Burnavon Theatre playing host to one of the exhibitions planned.”

The events and activities will be delivered throughout the year.  Working in conjunction with colleagues in Fermanagh and Omagh and Derry and Strabane District Councils, Mid Ulster will host a touring exhibition entitled “The Changing of a Nation”.

The exhibition will be housed within The Burnavon Theatre, exploring the origins, impact and legacy of pivotal moments in our history through objects and documents.

There will also be an education programme delivered in conjunction with the Nerve Centre that will help students to understand the significance of our past and provide an outlet to express their creativity through digital technology such as filmmaking, green screen and podcasting.  Chair and Deputy Chair are featured in the picture holding some the developed education resources which will be used to deliver the programme.

Mid Ulster District Council’s Good Relations Unit will also be offering a series of online lectures  working in conjunction with local historians and focusing on the period of 1921. These lectures will be delivered through online provision and venue based events.

Dates, times and location of events and activities will be available on the Council’s website in due course at www.midulstercouncil.org
