Jiving

Suitable for 16 yrs and above

Long awaited jive classes have arrived at the Burnavon! Specialising in country jiving, week by week Tina will show you all the steps and moves, so that by the end of the course you are ready for the dance floor! Not only is this your ideal opportunity to join in the current dance trend, it is fun and a great way to keep fit. So book early to avoid disappointment!

 

Textile Art

Time: 7pm – 9pm

Duration: 6 weeks

Suitable for age 16 years +

Under the expert guidance of textile artist Andrea Hayes you will be shown the amazing things you can do with fabric, thread, needles and an iron! The techniques of felt making, silk and fabric painting and embellishment using hand and machine embroidery, will each be covered.

This course will also introduce silk paper making which creates beautiful effects using gold/copper gilding flakes. Working with an array of textures, surfaces and colour you will make beautiful focal pieces of artwork for your home or unique personal accessories and soft furnishings.

 

Ceramics

Date: From Tuesday 13th September

Time: 7pm – 9pm

Suitable for ages 16 years + 

This course will start with an introduction to porcelain and how to prepare this lovely
material for hand building. Porcelain’s sensitivity means that delicate textures and patterns can be imprinted onto its surface, giving really unique results. Each week you will use the techniques you learn to create beautiful, fine, detailed pieces including a jewellery tray, a tea light holder, vase or clock. You can even give jewellery making a go! On the final week
you will learn how to glaze and have the opportunity to glaze your array of creations.

 

BASKET WEAVING

Suitable for age 16y+

Tried and tested these workshops running over two consecutive weeks are perfectly suited to both first timers and those who have tried this craft before.

Beginners will have just the time they need to acquire the basic skills and weave their first willow basket, while those with a little more experience will have scope to explore more advanced techniques and projects.

Under the expert direction of acclaimed basket weaver Louise McLean, results to be proud of are guaranteed, regardless of your starting point.

Furniture Upcycling

Furniture Upcycling

Date: Saturday 1 October

Time: 10am – 4pm

Cost: £50 including furniture and materials

Suitable for age 16y+

 

Give a small piece of furniture a brand new look in just a day! Learn how to make your
own chalk paint and take on a number of creative techniques including decoupage,
stencilling and upholstering a seat pad.

Experiment with your new found skills and techniques on your chosen piece to create a
totally unique look, and preserve your work with a final protective coat of wax or varnish.
A selection of suitable small items of furniture such occasional tables, chairs, plant stands will be provided for participants to choose from – this and all materials are included in the cost of the workshop. All materials supplied.

 

Floral Art

Date: Wednesday 5, 12, 19, 26 October and 2, 9 November

Time: 7pm – 9pm

Cost: £30

Suitable for 16y+

Recreational flower arranging classes, this is an exciting course where you will learn flower
arranging techniques with expert florist Sinead Goodwin. The workshops are equally suited to both beginners and the more advanced flower arranger, with a finished arrangement made each week.

Please note flowers and sundries will be supplied each night at an extra cost between £10–£18 depending on the arrangement being made.

Bath Bomb & Soap Making

Suitable for 16y+

Come along and learn how to make both a fizzy shea butter melt bathbomb and a gorgeous hand soap. This is a really relaxing workshop with quality results every time. Both your creations will be presented beautifully, so that they can be used as gifts. All materials supplied.

Beeswax Candle Making

Suitable for 16y+

The first of its kind at the Burnavon – beeswax candle making. In this workshop, you will
choose and customise your beeswax candle creation. From a variety of scents, shapes,
colours and wick size, you will choose and create your own customised candle for any
occasion. This is an excellent introduction to aromatherapy, manufacturing, where
nothing other than natural products is used. All materials supplied.

Make–up Masterclass

Time: 2pm – 5pm

Cost: £25 inc materials

Suitable for 16y+

This workshop shows you all the techniques to apply make–up to accentuate your features to the max! A variety of looks will be covered including day and night make up. You will be advised on the colours that suit you best and given the opportunity to practise application
under expert guidance. Plan an evening out after the workshop, as you will look just too good to stay at home! All materials supplied.   

 

Party Heads – Hair and Make–Up

Suitable for 16y–26y

Spend an afternoon learning expert hair and make–up techniques and get yourself ready to party at the same time! This workshop will focus on current trend dramatic looks for eyes and lips as well as tips on how using your straighteners to create amazing styles for a special night out. Planned with the festive party season in mind, feel free to bring along any hair accessories or make up colours you would like to use for the look you want.
